Kings peak guided hike

Kings Peak is the highest peak in Utah. Lies just south of the spine of the central Uinta Mountains and is located in the High Uintas Wilderness. There are 3 popular routes to the summit: a scramble up the east slope, a hike up the northern ridge, and a long but relatively easy hike up the southern slope. There are several approaches to King's Peak, but Henry's Fork Trail is the most popular, and generally the most accessible. The trailhead starts at the Henry's Fork Campground. The trail has a gradual slope for the first three miles, with an elevation change of just over 400 feet. After about 5.5 miles, you'll reach Elkhorn Creek.

May 15, 2001 · Anyone concerned about bear or wild animals and headed to Kings can probably hike the peak in mid-August. That's when in most years there is a sizable herd of sheep in the Henry's Fork basin. Any bear will go after the sheep first, though I bet the herders know to how keep them away.

If your a peak bagger in Utah, you are likely well aware of Kings Peak. At 13,528, is the highest peak in Utah, the highest peak in the Uinta Mountains, and the highest point in Duchesne County. This is a stunning peak that requires a fair bit of effort to reach the summit of. Either way, the trail hits Gunsight Pass, where there is a large rock cairn and some great views into Painter Basin. From the pass, the trail continues down into Painter Basin which eventually heads up towards Kings Peak, and ends at the Uinta Highline Trail about 1.5 miles from Anderson Pass.
