Nov 06, 2009 · The solder itself will provide a perfectly adequate electrical and mechanical connection. Twisting or wrapping wire at a joint makes it very difficult to get apart if you need to rework something. If you tin both the lugs and the wire ends you probably won't need to do anything but hold them together and apply the iron until the solder flows.
I rewired my Mandobird with new pots and a new cap. It didn't turn out well, so I just unsoldered everything and I am "re-rewiring" it. I have a good wiring diagram and my soldering skills are generally OK, but one thing I have trouble with is soldering a ground wire to the flat back of a pot and getting it to hold solidly.
